Should you choose to accept it (and you will!)...

Team up to create a group wiki that looks awesome and presents your novel study tasks in an effective way.

Right now you should be reading your novels - I'd suggest you read it once in depth and then be prepared to skim through it again (making notes) to answer your questions. I've purposefully held back the tasks from you for the first reading, as there's nothing quite like simply enjoying a book :) Keep an eye on this page as they'll be released bit by bit - you can complete them in any order you like.

You can publish your work on any medium you like before posting it to this wiki. Some options that might suit are...
  • Hand drawn/hand written work that's then scanned
  • Made using a word processing or design programme (eg. Pages, Word, PrintShop etc.) and then converted to PDF and saved here
  • Constructed/made and then photographed
  • Made using a web2.0 tool - eg. WeeWorld, Wordle/Tagxedo. Type web 2.0 into Google and see what neat tools you can find!
  • Podcasting, garage band, iMovie etc.
Be creative but make sure you use your presentation method as a way to best showcase your work - I'd love for you to experiement with a few different options.

If you have any questions, please list them under the tasks in the 'discussions', other people might be wanting to know the same thing!

In the meantime, why don't you take a look at this link (it will tell you how to add some cool bits to your wiki) and this one - feel free to make these pages your own, just remember that all decisions you make have to be made as a group (even if the agreement is to let group members have free rein on a page each).

(Want to know how I made the links to other pages? Or created the banner up the top? See me or those sites :) I can even teach you a little HTML coding to help you centre the banner - or you can google for yourself to see how it's done)

Task One: AVATAR - Make yourself into an avatar to use instead of your photo. Visit WeeWorld - www.weeworld.com. Create your WeeMe so it looks quite like you - then (on the apples at school) hold down the Apple/Command key, Shift and 4 - this will give you the grab box, highlight your WeeMee, then find the file on your desktop. Come back to the wiki and insert the 'file' through the control panel. If you're using a PC at home - use Google to see if you can work our how to take a copy of part of your screen! Good luck! Keep on reading those novels...

Task Two: RADIO ADVERTISEMENT - Create a radio clip to advertise the release of your book. Think carefully about balance - you don't want to give so much away that people won't read the book, but you need to share enough to really convince people they should buy it!

Task Three: SETTING COMPARISON - Create a 3-way venn diagram to compare and contrast different settings. Choose two different physical settings in the book and compare with a real-life setting for you (home, classroom etc.) - you can stay quite broad if that suits or compare more specific settings, eg. different bedrooms, if you're given enough detail in the book. You should include some quotes to back up your information from the book.
Here is an example of a 3-way venn diagram:(I think you can make a nicer looking one though!)

Task Four: ALTERNATIVE ENDING - Write a new ending for your novel. Be sure to stay true to the feel of the novel and write in similar language to that of the author. Don't be tempted to drop out detail - novels have heaps of detail in them, as should your alternative ending. Aim for 200-300 words - use the word count feature on Pages or Word to help you keep track of this. Plan it out first, do a first draft and then build on the detail from there to get you close to the word goal (300 words is quite a lot.)

Task Five: ALTERNATIVE COVER - Design a new cover with hand-drawn illustrations. Popular books seem to go through cover changes fairly often and this time you've been chosen to do it! Have you ever noticed that the author's name tends to get bigger and become more obviously as they become better known?
